The first Desk and Derrick Club was formed in 1949 by Inez Schaffer in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was their goal to form an organization to better educate individuals in the petroleum and allied industries with their motto being "An employee with a greater knowledge of the industry is a greater asset to the employer." The Desk and Derrick Club of Denver was organized in 1951 through the tireless efforts of a group of determined women led by Minetta Miller. Today, their goal is further achieved by attendance at field trips, seminars, and monthly meetings with informative speakers.
